TFP – Time For Prints.

Models that have been in the industry are usually quite familiar with this, but for those that are newer I'll explain the arrangement.

TFP is an arrangement where both the model and photographer can build or update their portfolios and or stock list, without being out a ton of money. When one hires a photographer for this kind of work the expenses can run up very fast, and a good portfolio is an absolute requirement for anybody that's serious about making it in the industry. This arrangement requires no money to change hands. This is an especially good deal for models because real photographers use real equipment, very expensive equipment that your boyfriends or girlfriends most likely won't own.

My TFP deal is a little different than most photographers can offer. I am a working stock photographer and my work is distributed internationally. I sell thousands of stock photos every year, my clients range from small to large. I work with several well known stock agencies with broad client bases. This provides models an exceptional opportunity for exposure. Exposure is the key ingredient for success in this business, for models and photographers.

Compensation

One might think I make a fortune selling all these stock photos so I must obviously be willing to pay models top dollar. The unfortunate reality is that I am compensated literally pennies on the dollar for each individual photo I sell. The way I earn income is by selling lots of material to a wide array of clients. But most importantly working with models and selling stock photos I gain experience and exposure which may lead to more lucrative business arrangements within the industry. So essentially I make the same gains as the model, EXPOSURE. In short we are both compensated with experience and exposure instead of money. Which I can assure you is worth more to me than the fee I would normally charge for a model shoot.

I will provide the model with a CD of images. Any images I use for my sites or stock list will be retouched and provided to the model when they are complete.

The Images

I will of course provide you with the images you need for your portfolio such as head, 3/4 and body shots. I also will need to work around some type of concept, as I don’t think anybody needs anymore simple portraits or an image of a model in a swim suit in front of a plain backdrop! I have no interest in boring material and I doubt you do either. I will always have a list of different concepts and locations to work around. Some will be listed here and some may not be posted yet. I am also completely willing to listen and work with ideas from the models. Let’s work together and create something interesting!

Models

Experienced models are great but absolute beginners are absolutely welcome as well. New discoveries happen every day!

I recommend you bring an assistant along with you, preferably one with some makeup and hair styling skill. You will be given time for numerous outfits and style changes. Please think creatively or browse some fashion or style magazines before our shoot. We want flare because we want to be noticed!

I do have an in-house studio available but I’d suggest some on location shots as well.

Ultimately I’d like to build a network of reliable and skilled models to work with on an on-going basis. An important benefit to this network would be the option to put together a shoot in short notice. This would save the time usually required to post want ads for models and for photographers and of course it’s just easier to work with people that already know you.
